Moto Camp - Sequoia National Forest

My good friend Kirk is moving away to Sacramento to pursue his career. As a last hurrah, we decide to pack our bags and ride our motorcycles up to Sequoia to do a two night camping trip - something we both been wanting to check off the bucket list. It was a new moon so I planned on shooting the Milky Way so that meant also carrying my Fuji and tripod. Food, water, shelter, strapped on our bikes for a night sleeping under the stars.

I admit I was pretty nervous about this trip because there were so many unknowns. Did I do a poor job on restoring the bike, how well can I ride with all this extra weight, will I have enough water, how tired will I be after two nights outside? I needed to overcome my fears, self doubt and become a stronger me.

I had been planning the trip for months prior to taking off. I made various trips to Home Depot to fabricate brackets that’ll allow me to strap bags to the back of the bike. Without this, I would’ve been carrying way too much on my back which is undesirable for such a long trek - plus my back was reserved for my camera. I finally figured out the perfect combination that won’t be too heavy, but also won’t take up too much space (without buying anything new) - A hammock and a one person tent. When we arrived we flipped for it, I took two L’s but Kirk thankfully agreed to take the hammock because he saw how absolutely delicious mosquitoes found me.

Very happy to do this trip with Kirk since he’s a seasoned camper, and an amazing rider - I knew he’d watch my six and I couldn’t have asked for a better riding buddy. Pursue your dreams, Kirk. Nothing is too out of reach, I wish you the very best.
